Why wont my bloodshot eyes go away?

Hi. Yesterday I accidentally fell asleep for about four hours with my contacts in. When I woke up, my eyes were kind of sore, and the area around my irises was really bloodshot. It was pretty late, so i took my contacts out and went to bed, thinking the bloodshot would go away. It's now about 24 hours since, and the redness is still the exact same. Please help!
