My dog has red and watery eyes!?

After I picked my dog up from the groomer today, I noticed his eyes were bloodshot and watery. I didn't ask the groomer what happened because I didn't notice it until I was in the car with him. At first when we got home he couldn't keep his eyes open. Now they're just really watery and red :( I'm taking him to the vet tomorrow to get it checked out, but for now is there anything that could alleviate his irritation? I feel bad because he doesn't seem very comfortable.
