My 1 year old has a cough, any remedies?

My son has a chest cough. he is up to date on all of his vaccines, and the hospital is closed for appointments until tuesday. I bought some vicks VapoRub but havent used it, is there anything else i can do for him? all the cough medicines ive looked at say not for under 2 years of age :/
