Best cough medicine or remedy for very tickly coughs?

I have a very tickly cough which is almost constant, the docs have said it's viral so can't have any antibiotics but it's driving me crazy. I've so far tried covonia, pholocodiene, inhalers, antihistamines and steam, but nothing is helping. Please pleas help!
